Balance of Power

What is baseload generation, also known as the “backbone of reliability?”
Baseload power generation facilities provide a steady and constant supply of dispatchable
electricity to meet the minimum level of demand needed by our members.
Baseload power plants, such as coal and natural gas, can provide power 24/7/365.
Day or night, they are dependable workhorses that generate dependable baseload power consistently.
Why do we need baseload generation?
Dispatchable baseload generation is critical because it provides a dependable and constant supply of electricity, and they are not as dependent on weather conditions.
“When I’m working an outage in the middle of the night, we need reliable generation to restore power to your home or business. Without it, I wouldn’t be able to do my job.”
Jordan Lott, Lineman at First Electric Cooperative.
